Install older version of gmail

However, I will see if I can find out why it may not be working for you, Ch pm n. Is anyone else having any difficulty with it? It's NOT as big of a deal as they are letting on.

Why they had to go and screw up a good thing is beyond me! I agree. Gmail needs an option to permanently use the old version. I had gotten pretty used to the new version, but just saw the old version link today and tried it out. I didn't realize how much faster the old version really was! I also much prefer the old contacts page. It was just so simple, so straightforward, and so My other email providers, AOL and Yahoo!

They're sooooo slow and bloated. I thought Google would never do it, but now they're moving in the same direction. What now? Gmail stopped working entirely on Firefox 3 Beta 1, which is otherwise pretty good and much faster. Can't really blame them too much for that, as it's brand new, but i thought I'd let people know, because it took me a while to figure it out. I would like to say to Ch pm n and anyone else using the script for redirecting to the older version of Gmail that the script has been updated.

I have tested it out and it works correctly for me, and it works with more possible situations that may occur. The script can be downloaded from here. As always, I would appreciate any feedback about this script.

I coudlnt agree more the new version sucks ass. Google is going south on many avenues New version's lack of e-mail address autofill feature is a royal pain. Also, I too do not want the chat crap clutter. If I cannot get the old version permanently back I am leaving Google Mail and believe it or not returning to aol. The missing autofill thing is my major beef. For anyone who hasn't seen the new version, consider yourself lucky. Enjoy the fast, no-nonsense version while you can On another note, does anyone know a way to spoof your UserAgent string just for a specific site?

It's now Dec. What is particularly annoying is the arrogance of these people. By the way, the service is not free. You pay for it by buying the thousands of products that advertise through Google.

Back to the arrogance: there is no obvious link to reach an actual gmail employee to register a complaint and get an answer. Yes, not being able to actually speak with a gmail representative is most annoying. When I was with aol it was never difficult to access help and for that reason I will be returning to aol with the new year.

I see some of you are actually waiting to get the new version. How can it not be universal? Why wasn't I given a choice? Arrogant indeed to foist something on me that I do not want. Nobody forces you to click on the ads and they're not as intrusive as the banners from Yahoo Mail or Hotmail.

You might even find links to useful services. How many employees would Google need to answer to each of the messages in a timely manner? Google automates the process and only answers to some of the messages. If you receive an automated response, reply with more details and Google might answer you. You're not missing too many features anyway colored labels, AIM integration, updated contact manager and the old version is still faster and more stable. The user should have more choices and setting options not less.

It's just common BTW, thanks so much for this page. The 'english UK' thing was exactly what I was looking for. Will this fix last? Are they going to 'F' it up too? I sure hope not. If so I am dumping Gmail. Cheers, stinki. The only issue I have with the new version is that it doesn't autofill with Safari. For that reason, I am using the UK version until they get that all worked out.

I think I have the newer version of gmail, but my problem is that it really won't work, it takes at least seconds to load anything, and it is getting really irritating, and this is only on my computer, when I log in from other computers, it's normal, fast. I need some help, I don't know how to fix it, I don't know if my computer is the problem, or if my gmail account is.

Maintain the Rage! I've been watching my older PCs at home fight a losing battle with GMail, all the time thinking IE had bee compromised. In fact She Who Must Be Obeyed blamed a relative for sending a "virus that broke GMail" which I dismissed as ridiculous, given the extensive security software we run. Who'd have thought Google broke their own GMail?? And here I am at work, two PCs trying to figure why GMail takes a minute to load, then discovering the "Old Version" - then finding the switch ain't permanent..

So, it's Google's little gnomes, hammering away in the bowels of the G-plex, trying to make a dollar from all the greedy souls who've been soaking up the apparently-free bandwidth. Well, from me it's "So Long GMail, it was great knowing you. The interface is still pathetic. Feels like working on html tables, there is simply no eligance to anything :. I agree with some other posters that this should be a setting within the Options tab.

This is NOT user friendly : Jim. Too bad this concept doesn't work any longer the UK language selection. Gmail rolled out hte UK version this past week, and I've been looking for a way to revert back sense. It takes 20 to 30 seconds to load and it freezes my browser while it does it.

Normally if I'm working with a slow site I switch to another tab and do something else while it loads, but gmail has become such a massively bloated piece of crap that it drags down my whole computer when it loads. The new version is CRAP! Just try to upload an attachment. More often than not it times out.

I'm really disappointed with gmail as well now. I actually thought there was something wrong with my Firefox, but no, apparently not. Only now I discovered the older version is still available, but of course you have to be able to load the new interface to be able switch to the old one!

And when loading, either my browser crashes or I get numerous "unresponsive script" warnings, so it takes forever to even load the new version. Hi my name is marilee and i didn't know anything about old version i joined year ago and it went straight to the new one,on the left there is no where to click on for the old version seems everyone can do this but not me.. I have an old computer so to me this new version at times is slow, wonder if anyone else has same problem.

I'm glad I found this thread and that I'm not the only one. I HATE the new gmail and it betrays everything we thought google had learned about what most people want: fast, simple, reliable. I think there's two problems: 1. The devil makes work for idle hands. Developers with nothing to do will And develop, and develop, until the product collapses; and 2. Google developers will all have super-fast machines with multi-gig memory and fat-pipe, high-speed internet If they end up reading this, they'll be puzzled: "Huh?

Mine loads fast. As soon as the 'old version' is no longer available, it's "bye bye gmail. The new gmail just straight up sucks Getting quite frustrated with it.

NOW I can't even get my old version to work. Why do they gotta fix something that is not broken to begin with? Yea I am with Chainey Bye Bye gmail. One of the choices is to choose HTML which does not give you your contact listing automatically. I much prefer the older version. If it aint broke then don't fix it! Now I have to go and chack each entry one by one; which is a pain in the dery-air.

Unless someone knows of another way to perform that task. So; tell us, what the hell is the improvement with the new verison????? The new version of gmail is a major pain in the dari-aire and I can't understand what the advantages are when they did away with the ability to batch delete the spam file, plus not being able to put the yellow star next to a message you want to refer back too.

I am not very fond of the so-called new version either. I suddenly see something dark blue that realy hurts my eyes. Why is it so difficult to keep using the old version? May 28, I sent my news letter to over a thousand people once a week for several years on Gmail. I went for a knee replacement operation on Monday April 16, I came home two weeks ago from the hospital.

I had every thing planned so I could resume my newsletter. The format was changed while I was in the hospital and I have been unable to continue. Please restore my Gmail to the "Old Format".

Kevin Cahill, StPaulsalbahouse Gmail. On the other hand, it is possible to revert back to my favorite classic light blue interface. That is not as difficult as I thought it was.

It is even possible to try out some other themes. Yet, I think I still prefer "classic". I definitely prefer my old gmail page. I thought the new one was a terrible virus and started checking all my security features to make sure all was okay.

Why screw around with a successful, error free web site? Everyone can add all kinds of junk to their pages but I prefer clear, clean, comprehensive simplicity I use google chrome and it works perfectly fine for me.

It also works on my internet 7, even though the gmail lags alot. Using Google Chrome was the solution 4 me. I don't know if you guys would like to, but try using Chrome. Its a recommendation. So, before you guys say anything bad, try chrome, and then you have all the rights in the world to do it. I'm so over these useless changes to the email clients they keep pushing out. I only use gmail through an IMAP client now because I'm so sick of them constantly changing the interface. As soon as yahoo pulls its collective head out of its backside and puts in some decent spam filters I'll probably drop gmail for good.

Booo to the programmers who like change more than they like consistently happy customers. I have to agree with all the posters above. The new Gmail is bloody awful. The appeal of the original and indeed Google search itself was its simple and reliable fuss-free approach.

I don't have issues with the speed as some have - I just don't like being told I have to have the new version without the option. Clicking 'older version' every time is a pain. Simple, Google - just give us the choice, that's all. As many others have said - when the old version is no longer available by any means, I'm out of here.

Improvements are one thing, change that appears to be for the sake of change is a very bad idea because humans are creatures of habit. I can accept the changes but I shall never forgive Gmail for doing away with the Google search box that came up on my in tray. That is one change that I did not need and that, I am sure, was not needed by anybody else, except perhaps Google themselves. The big advantage of the Gmail page was that one could go anywhere from it and there was no need to open a new one for anything.

It was efficiency carried to the utmost and that efficiency is now lost. Gmail is the new Hotmail!!!!! This is pathetic, has been since last fall.

Google started a disturbing trend of being "evil" a few years back. This is one more example. Why not give us options. We don't like the new layout, don't force it on us. I hate windows and yahoo email services, now Gmail is looking like its going towards the same.

I think someone did not have enough to do at google. If she still is bored at google and makes it worse there are others I can use. Hey you smart guys at google try solving the financial crisis! They're going to eliminate the old gmail version than reveal the new google search engine which will be worse. Then everyone will get mad and abandon google. Google will take a nose dive. Let the lay-offs at google begin. I have yet to see an efficient business remain focused on being efficient and keeping things simple for the customer.

The Google search box is back where it belonged on the Gmail page. Well done. So now what is the way to revert to older version? Please say there is a way!!!!! I don't know what you're all whinging about, Gmail is great and the new features are very useful. All emails are working fine expect gmails. New version of gmail stinks. Far worse than the other free mail outlets like hotmail or yahoo.

I can't believe a company that big refuses to listen to their users. My rating - 1 yahoo - flexible interface, good spam filter. A big headache to use. I think it was designed by programmers for programmers or the minion of robots they plan to make.

Definitely not for every day people. But excellent at spam filtering. They don't have anything right. Can't control spams. Customer service refuses to acknowledge problems.

Their product is fine and doesn't need to be as user friendly as others because godaddy says so. Is there still no way to default to older version? Google really needs to address this issue! Keys sticking when sending gmail is driing me crazy. Does not happen when using word or other applications. Please fix this probem Google! I couldn't find a way to bookmark the older version URL. I just found the best solution to this problem. Even when you use the newer version of Gmail, you will have similar user experience as older version.

I like older version more.. The google mentality is to play games with words and language. First of all it's call "older version" instead of Classic Version like it should be because they want to FORCE a "fancier" "cuter" user interface rather than provide choice - ie. Please get a CLUE all you software execs, managers and developers. Why doesn't every vote as as block and organize a successful , people etc.

Boycott, to keep the old version. The new one sucks. No Improvement. Uncomfortable square look, I only like the rounded edges The only way to have any effect is news for three weeks etc. I hate the look of what the new version is. Any suggestions? Yes, the new UI is a piece of garbage, and now there's no way to go back. Maybe someone is knowledgeable and willing enough to create a script for it, if even possible? Only time will tell. I want the old gmail back.

I hate this new crap gmail it is a peace of shit. The new gmail sign-in page is lousy and is not aesthetic. It becomes a headache trying to go retrieve and lot of time is wasted trying to go back to the previous layout. I want to go back to the old version of gmamil for good not this new crap.

I hate the new version of gamil. I want the old one back for good. I m unable to see the 'revert to old look' option on gmail in any browser. I need to convert old look. Please help me. Well not Gmail does not care that we do not want this new verion, They have went and changed me back to the New version for the tenth time when I do not want it just let me keeop the old version. I am now unable to revert to the old look since they have removed the revert button.

Go back to the last version The new gmail version is terrible. I will file a lawsuit against the company! Melpa Enterprises. If you have the new version of Gmail , but you don't like it, there are some ways to go back to the old version. Many browser extensions are beyond shady and could be doing anything. Trust is more important than ever. I switched to the classical gmail, really like its compact look that shows more of the mail, a narrow tags column to choose from, but I was really annoyed by the imposing blue background that cannot be controlled and the lack of google talk plug in.

Why not differentiate read versus unread mails with one colour uniformly bold instead of many bold fonts in black and blue! My issue is this: Gmail inconsistently places messages from Phys. But in the latest configuration, trash view seems to be gone entirely. Whatever Google stuffs into trash is only recoverable if I set up a search.

If I routinely move correspondence from a particular sender back to the inbox, Google will still keep dropping messages from that sender into the trash. In the case of Phys. If you disable Gmail inbox sorting, it usually fixes the problem where Gmail erroneously sorts newsletters and so forth into the wrong categories:.

On my screen, there is a trash can icon on the left, below the drafts icon, which loads the trash view. Just a little note on something mentioned in the first sentence of the article: the interface is described as having a bigger sidebar, and also as more spacious. The sidebar might be a hair wider if that , but, of course, not any taller since even on a full HD screen it uses the full height of the browser. To describe something as more spacious means there is more space, when in reality, they just increased the space between labels, and there is actually LESS space now than before.

I use a lot of labels in Gmail, and before, I was able to just barely see all of them in the sidebar; now, I have to scroll to see the last 5 of them. Surely they could code that section if they wanted to so that you could drag that handle all the way down? For me, being able to see less on the screen, and having to use more clicks to do things why, oh why, Google, do you keep adding more clicks to do things in your apps and in Android….? Here are a few suggestions collated from various prior emails on this topic.

I make not claims about whether these are good or bad. It is not perfect but not bad. Snooze, Chats etc 9. Politely use the feedback under settings. It looks like it has been designed for a 5 year old, I refuse to ever use that garbage and will use HTML version professionally and Thunderbird for personal account, if need be I will switch to Mail.

I hate the new gmail redesign, even after these workarounds. Probably the talented employees designers in this case have left the place. Many of us could care less about social tabs and the like. Just turning off hover actions and setting the display density to Compact made a huge difference for me. I use the search features in Gmail pretty often. Chris complained about the lack of the latter, not the earlier. As soon as I reload the page it reverts to the standard view despite settings being allegedly saved to allow the HTML view as default.

I have the same problem. It looks like they are really trying to push the new interface. I have a relatively slow connection and I need the basic html version. It is all I use because it is much faster to load and I sometimes have a slow internet connection and do not like the new cluttered interface of Gmail New. You can toggle it off or on in the corner of your Gmail window, or at the very bottom of Gmail screen.

When the revamp first appeared, I sent feedback about the wasted space, poor contrast, and lesser performance of the new design, then switched back. Switching back to basic HTML solves many issues, but why should users have to sacrifice functionality just for the sake of some contrast and more efficient use of space?

The designers who create current UIs to look nice, but less functional will learn the lesson when they age and their vision deteriorates. I so much agree!! If someone form Google reads and cares, it will be super great if we can have back:. This time at hte moment anyway the redesign theme is standard unless you previously switched.

Aside from Protonmail which is paid service, Gmail is the best email for webmail. With the new crappy look. A couple months ago, I could switch back to the old look using the gear icon.
