Sure would like some help. I had the exact problem. For some reason that I no longer recall, I regretfully uninstalled Adobe Flash Player while trying to update all my free Adobe downloads.
I could no longer install Flash Player of course I always uncheck the McAfee box and got the same message as explained above. Therefore, in Firefox only, I could not view videos.
That was so frustrating! I tried many solutions and researched and tried again for a few days but to no avail. Note that I work in the French version of Windows 8. So I researched in both languages for a solution. Then, today, I ended up here and tried the simple install link the short version in one of the answers and it worked!
For those who might need to know, the French version was installed with that same link since Adobe always recognizes the language I work in.
